Our residential work ranges from multistory condominium buildings to private residences and additions. We seek to create both highly functional as well as beautiful environments for living. Religious buildings have a special place within our communities and should be designed sensitively so they can be identified as sacred places. We specialize in adding new construction to the historical architecture of sacred places. Our principals are experienced in adding beautiful additions that are contextual, complimentary, and sensitive to the architecture of historic religious structures, while connecting to and renovating the existing facilities so that they can meet today’s standards of accessibility and function. Additionally, we can assist a religious organization in conducting a master plan process which includes garnering Parish-wide input through the use of instruments such as Parish surveys, community meetings, questionnaires, and/ or charettes.

Planning
We possess a particular specialty in New Urbanism design and planning. The principals of the firm bring extensive urban design expertise to our clients. They studied with the founders of the New Urbanist movement, and designed and managed dozens of mixed use neighborhood plans and master plans ranging from the scale of a single block to that of hundreds of acres while at previous firms. Additionally, Metropolitan Architecture Studio specializes in the creation of design guidelines based on enduring principles of urban design. An outgrowth of our urban design expertise is our skill in the design of civic building exteriors, critical components of the urban landscape.

Metropolitan Architecture Studio is committed to the environment. We believe it is our moral responsibility to do our part in protecting the earth. We work with a variety of sustainable rating systems such as LEED, BREEAM, and Green Communities. Our ultimate goal is to create negative carbon buildings which produce energy rather than use the earth’s limited energy resources. Our planning practice is centered on pedestrian friendly design in order to create communities that are not automobile dependent, where an alternate transportation is feasible. We seek to create an ecological architecture and urbanism.
